HRS team exercising to raise money for charity

Throughout the month of February, the whole HRS team went outdoors - in all sorts of weather - to walk, run and cycle as many miles as possible.

We did this to raise money for three fantastic charities:

  • Alzheimer's Society - Dementia is the UK's biggest killer. Another person develops dementia every three minutes, and at present, there's no cure. Alzheimer's Society is a charity that funds research, campaigns for change, and supports people living with dementia.

  • Jeans for Genes - Jeans for Genes Week is an annual event that aims to raise awareness and money to support the 1 in 25 children affected by genetic disorders. This year, Jeans for Genes Week will take place from the 13th to the 19th of September.

  • Mind - The coronavirus pandemic has taken a huge toll on people's mental health, so we feel that it's more important than ever to support charities like Mind, who offer advice and support to anyone who's experiencing mental health problems. Mind also campaign to improve mental health services and better our understanding of this issue.

We are thrilled to announce that the HRS team managed to cover a whopping 2,824 miles in February, raising a total of £7,692 for our chosen charities.

Every member of the team deserves a pat on the back for running, walking and cycling so many miles in the face of snow, rain and low temperatures - but a special mention must go to Ben Hamlin, who personally clocked up 252 miles (that's nine whole miles per day!) and raised £1,610 in the process.

This challenge was incredibly rewarding, not just because we raised thousands of pounds for three worthy causes, but also because it helped us all to get off the sofa, keep ourselves fit, and focus on something positive in these challenging times. Naturally, we all got very competitive - so don't be surprised if we're announcing the launch of an HRS running club very soon!
