Director of Bioinformatics: Duties & Responsibilities
As the Director of Bioinformatics, you will be responsible for leading a team of bioinformatic scientists and working closely with R&D.
Your duties as the Director of Bioinformatics will be many and varied. However, your key duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Analyse complex biological datasets (e.g. genomic sequences, gene expression data and protein structures)
- Develop and implement software tools and algorithms used to analyse and interpret biological data
- Create databases to store experimental data
- Write reports, publications, news releases, grant applications and workflows as needed
- Design and develop guidelines and processes to ensure high levels of quality and efficiency
- Work with researchers from other fields (such as biologists, computer scientists and geneticists) to design experiments and develop research questions
- Stay up to date with new developments and technologies in the field of bioinformatics
